Wireless?

Apr-26th-2011

I know very little about computers can anyone enlighten me on wireless and is it easier for someone to get your particulars.

wireless internet uses a transmitter box router attached to your broadnand internet connection

A wireless adapter is installed and working in your computer.

It can be built into a new laptop in added into to almost any computer pentium 2 and up.

The signal goes 300 feet indoors, 1000 feet outdoors.

Same frequency as standard cordless phones the two work okay together

More than one computer can use the same internet connection.

Router has to be set up. not hard for someone who knows a liitle bit about computer

The major brands of routers are Linksys and Dlink

all brands of wireless routers are fine.

If you are buying a card to add in match the same brand of card and router faster and when you have troubles setting up tech support cannot tell you to screw off it must be their product.

Dont let the store bambbozle you with faster speeds

even the really old b routers and cards are way faste than any internet.

Most stuff now is wireless g souped up wireless b

Big box stores have wireless routers on sale all the time

When you have your router set up have them change the channel from channel to channel 1 or 11

Neighbours routers drifting in will bother you internet signal

I was in the same situation. I tried reading articles to knowledge myself, but failed! Eventually found this really cheap one that installed itself honest!, bought from Amazon.co.uk.

Im on a BT line and needed an ADSL, if you are cable it is slightly different, so ask again on here. the one I purchased and had up and running in about 30 mins was a ZyXel Gatewy 802.11g wireless ADSL 2+ 4-port Gateway only being specific as the box is still next to me!
