Nov-19th-2010

Following a lengthy period of beta testing, Microsoft is released its “barcode on steroids” to the general public.

Dubbed “Tag,” the application enables users to hover their mobile devices over a barcode, whether on a physical product, a catalog page or anywhere else, and navigate to a Web page for more information. Enterprise Mobile Today has the details on the new free application from Microsoft.

A year and a half after it entered beta test, Microsofts color barcode system for mobile devices simply dubbed “Tag” officially hit “general availability” on Thursday.

Referred to by Microsoft NASDAQ MSFT as “barcodes-on-steroids,” the technology lets users hover their mobile phones over a code, whether in a magazine, on a product package, or on a car, and link to further information.
